A partner exhibition with Hannah Parrett, Interior Facsimiles explores relationships between ceramics, fiber, and painting. Through the overlap of two artist’s languages in repetition and pattern, familiar objects of domestic life are re-assessed in a public space. Painted curtains camouflage and reveal false interiors, ceramic vessels are framed by textile cushions, where together they create the possibility of a private space. Interior Facsimiles uses quilted images and materials to explore different methods of meaning making through the piecing together of fragments. The structure of the quilt is a starting point in both artist’s work in identifying its power as an object of memory and an object that can function as a storytelling device.
